Hiking & Cycling
The Upper Black Forest is, so to speak, "very sporty". Both hikers and mountain bike fans will get their money's worth. On the bike you will experience a variety of tours with challenging climbs, rapid descents and spectacular views – a true mountain biker's paradise...
You can also explore the Black Forest's most beautiful hiking trails. What should definitely be on your agenda in terms of hiking in the Black Forest: A hike through the wildly romantic Ravenna gorge. Even inexperienced hikers can manage this course that takes around three hours at a comfortable pace. Historical Black Forest mills line your path, which is also part of the local history trail.
What amazing views! Directly into the Höllental (Hell Valley)!
You start your hike at the Hofgut Sternen Hotel & Restaurant in the Hell Valley. At the entrance of the Ravenna gorge you wander through the Black Forest under the impressive railway viaduct. The route takes you further and further along the Ravenna stream, up high above the Hell Valley to the lookout point. You will come to the village of Breitnau and then head back around to the Hofgut Sternen. The wild rippling Ravenna stream, shady forest paths, sunny meadow valleys and a breathtaking view over Hell Valley from the lookout point are an experience of a very special kind!
You should make time to visit the extensive Hofgut area with the wonderful Hotel Hofgut Sternen, built in typical Black Forest style. Here you will also find the lovely historic St Oswald chapel (built 1148), a glass blowing workshop and a giant cuckoo clock. Enjoy a snack or a slice of Black Forest gateau at the restaurant.
